About the Documentary
Leaning Into the Lens is a short educational documentary (25 minutes) written, produced and directed by Dr. Kathleen Cummins and Maureen McKeon. The documentary seeks to unpack the presence of the “celluloid ceiling” in film schools. Through interviews with film industry professionals, film school graduates, as well as pedagogy and gender experts, the film challenges postsecondary educators and administrators to find more meaningful ways to support female-identifying students enrolled in film school programs.
To date the documentary has been selected to screen at the following festivals and conferences:
- The 78th University Film and Video Association Conference in Cleveland, Ohio (July 2024)
- The Activists Without Border Film Festival in London, England (December 2023)
- The 10th Nevada Women’s Film Festival, Las Vegas (June 2024)
